RC Drift Cars

RC Drift Cars. Have you ever seen an action-packed chase movie where the cars are sliding sideways while in the middle of a high-speed turn? Or maybe you've experienced this yourself on a slick road when your wheels have lost traction. What I'm trying to describe here is drifting. This amazingly challenging skill is quickly becoming very popular in the radio controlled world with RC Drift Cars.

You have a few choices with RC Drift Cars. You can either buy a ready made car this is set up for drifting (even though most of these are rubbish at the moment, if you find a good one, let me know) or you can modify your own car. I highly recommend modifying your own car. Electric cars are the preferred choice to modify, because of their light weight and durability, whereas nitro cars are very likely to suffer damages from over-revving when you start spinning the wheels.

Your motor is most likely the first thing you're going to have to modify if you're getting into RC Drift Cars. RC cars with original motors don't normally have what it needs for drifting. When upgrading the motor you're going to generally be looking for a balance between the speed and torque of the motor. You need to get those tyres spinning and keep them spinning! About $40 should be sufficient for a cheap upgrade of your regular RC Car into one of the better RC Drift Cars.

So how do you actually drift? This is the amazingly fun part. You've probably seen friends with their RC Drift Cars or on TV. You just need to get your car up to a high speed, and take a sharp(ish) turn. The rear tyres will lose traction, and you will need to steer the car into the skid. Some of the best RC Drift Cars have recorded 30 foot drifts! So get practicing!
